In order to use the M*A*S*Her, you must have downloaded two files:
1.) MASH.TTP; and 2.) MASH.RSC. The resource file must accompany the
main program in order for the program to run. The current version of
M*A*S*H is 2.01. This is a non-GEM version. The next version, while
completely file compatible with the current version, will incorporate the
GEM interface (i.e., drop-down menus, form-alert boxes, and such) as well
as the ability to compress non-standard format disks. Thus, the
limitations of the current version are it's non-GEM interface and
inability to compress disks with a non-standard format. If a disk has
been formatted from the GEM desktop and the accompanying files work
properly, the M*A*S*H program will work without incident. On the other
hand, disks such as PC/InterComm will not M*A*S*H. As stated above,
future versions will correct this problem.
As can be seen above, this is a TOS-takes-parameters application.
(This application will also work from within a command line interpreter
such as MICRO C SHELL.) Once you double-click on the icon from the
desktop, you will be prompted to enter a command line. The first
character should be a '-' (minus sign). This is followed by other
parameters, as given below.
In the case of a file-to-file operation you have just two options.
The '-' is immediately followed by either a 'C' or 'E'. The 'C' notifies
the application that you wish to compress a file. The 'E' indicates that
you intend to expand (decompress) a previously compressed file.
Immediately following the 'C' or 'E' can be a 'W'. This causes the
application to await a key press after echoing the command line that you
have typed. This allows you to swap disks if necessary or to insert the
correct disks. The next parameter is the file name that you wish
compressed or expanded. You must separate the first parameter and this
one by at least one space. The third item is optional. This is a path
name to which the output file is going to be wri
